Providence Baptist Church*

Created in the imagination of the Holy Spirit, Providence Baptist Church is a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship church in Hendersonville, NC.  A congregation of about 75, we are an open and welcoming community of diverse ages and faith backgrounds.  Silence, simplicity, and holy listening are a valued part of our worship.  Our desire is to be a place of spiritual growth and healing, to follow Christ, and to become his hands and feet in the world, near and far.

At Providence we honor our Baptist history and values while leaving space for God’s Mystery to work in and through us, irrespective of denominational or religious affiliation. Alongside our pastor, we strive to practice servant leadership, meaning the congregation ministers to each other out of the gifts each person brings to build and strengthen the greater Body of Christ. In all ways, we strive to love God and love our neighbors near and far.

Providence Baptist Church is a community of faith led by the Holy Spirit to worship with integrity, inquire with open minds, and minister with compassion in order to proclaim the reign of God as revealed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The following are our values as a congregation.

Hospitality: Providence wants to continue to embody the sense of compassion, welcoming, fellowship, concern for others, warmth, love, nurture, seeing God in the stranger, serving, sharing, forgiveness, excitement, and giving that has always been core to its identity.

Inclusiveness: We recognize that we are all created in God’s image. We respect the gifts and talents of all people.

Going to the Other: Many ministry experiences of Jesus and the disciples happened outside of the religious assembly. They were willing to go to other cultures and other people to share the love of Christ in physical and spiritual ways.

Growth: At Providence, we emphasize spiritual formation and growth through spiritual practices such as prayer, study, service, and observance of the Christian calendar.

Simplicity: We have adopted the phrase “Sacred and Simple.” We aim to be a place of healing and renewal.

Worship: Worship is central to what we do as a church. A Trinitarian model is used to guide our planning of songs and prayers in worship.
