Anti-Trans Bills Statement

The recent override of 3 anti-trans youth bills in North Carolina only serves to further marginalize our LGBTQIA2S+ youth. The passage of all 3 bills strips away healthcare and sports participation for trans youth. In addition, this new set of laws requires forcibly outing transgender and gender-nonconforming youth. It further prohibits the mention of the LGBTQIA2S+ community in the classrooms. Our queer and trans-youth are already vulnerable, and these laws will have serious life-threatening consequences. Our youth deserve a safe, affirming space. All children deserve a space that is inclusive and welcoming. In a country that celebrates freedom of speech these bills are another attack on the LGBTQIA2S+ community. The rhetoric of some politicians and others only serves to divide our state and our nation. Our youth deserve the same rights as other young people without judgement. Blue Ridge Pride calls upon our citizens to stand up and make your voices heard. To the LGBTQIA2S+ youth, parents, families, teachers, and healthcare providers of North Carolina we stand behind you and will continue to raise our voice for human rights. No one should ever be ashamed of who they are and who they love. Be proud. Be loud. Share your truth and live an authentic life.
